#3, 9, 118, & 121

Obviously it has been quite sometime since I’ve posted updates about my ToDo List and a lot has happened in that time. Since my first ever Skype sesh I’ve crossed off #3, #9, #118, and #121. Although I haven’t been successful in posting for every single item on the list, I’m making progress. There are approximately 52.177457 weeks in a year and there are 121 items on my list. Seeing as it is only the second week of 2011 and I’ve already been able to cross off five items, I’d say I’m off to a rather good start. I hope I’ll be able to keep this going.

Friday evening my friend came over because neither of us had plans so we looked at the list and decided #3 would be fun. Yes, we ate ice-cream outside while it was merely 24° outside. Well it wasn’t exactly “ice-cream” per say. We went to Skinny Dip so technically it was “frozen yogurt,” but I really can’t tell the difference because I like both! And 24° is only and estimation because that was the reported low temperature and since it was after 10 p.m., I’m pretty sure it was closer to the low temperature than the high temperature for that day, which was 42°. This is just rambling now, but it brings me to my next point.

Completing #3 made it necessary to complete #9 as well. In order to successfully purchase and consume the “frozen yogurt” outdoors it was impossible to be home before 10 p.m. considering we left my house at 9:50. Oh, my curfew is 10 p.m., by the way, not the official 11 p.m. curfew like most teenage drivers. This is because I am a relatively new driver and there is a “huge difference” in driving between 10 and 11 (says my Dad); although, I’ve been out driving after 11 before and it’s really not any different, but that is a whole other story. After eating the “frozen yogurt” my friend and I returned home around 10:45 crossing #9 off the list.

Next I was able to cross of #118 because I am finally able to do something with my parents old record albums: play them. For christmas my family got a record player and it’s pretty much the coolest thing I’ve ever owned in my life. I love it and I use it almost all the time. Ever since Christmas Day we’ve been playing records and dancing, the house is always filled with music. Not only is it a regularly used appliance now, it has also become a source of entertainment among my friends. They love going through the record albums and finding something they know. I’m so happy those records aren’t just sitting in a trunk, lonely anymore!

Last but not least, I completed #121. Someone told me that I “make [her] day” yesterday in English, or maybe it was history… Anyways, she is such a sweet girl and I’m glad I made her day. :]

Keep a look-out for more posts. I’ve already made plans for completing and crossing off a few more items from my ToDo List!

Positive Thinkings

This is not part of my ToDo List, but it’s something I’ve been wanting to do.

It started about a month ago when I saw a sticky note on the window of my french portable. Written on the sticky note was a quote and hearts and whatnot. I don’t know how it got there or who it came from, but it made me happy. I thought, “Oh, you can do that? What a wonderful idea!”

A few days ago I found a little pad of paper on my mom’s desk, perfect for cute notes, and I remembered the sticky note. I realized that I could make people happy taping them around school in random places. Tuesday I taped my first inspiring note to a soap dispenser in the girls’ bathroom in the 200 hallway. The note read, “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful,” a quote from the German philosopher Albert Schweitzer. I really believe that nothing should stop you from doing the things you want to do and not letting anyone tell you something else is better. If you want to play saxophone because you like jazz music, don’t let your mom decide you will play the piano.

Tomorrow’s note will say “Keep your face always toward the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind you.” I love Walt Whitman and I think this one says a lot about how our perceptions influence our experiences. I won’t elaborate anymore on that because this would go on forever, haha!

I call these notes “positive thinkings.” Yes, I know that’s bad grammar, but it serves the purpose. I hope that, even if only one person sees the note, I can make someone’s day better. We could all use a mood-booster, especially in school.

Play the saxophone.

IT’S DONE! My first item on the ToDo List.

I wrote to Santa a few weeks back.. well, I didn’t actually compose a letter describing how good I’ve been all year, like I used to do. This year since I’m a big kig (but not entirely) and I’ve already proven myself to Santa that I am a good person I just jotted down a quick list for him. I gave it to my mom (to give to Santa ofcourse) and I guess she gave it to him because I got most of the stuff I put down. I’m still waiting on that pony, Santa!

For Christmas this year, I got a webcam! Finally! I can be one of those silly girls who talks to her friends on Facebook through silly video posts on their walls. Yes, not only did I complete #36 on the list, I had to leave my first video wall post too. My first skype victim (I mean conversation…) was with my friend Zach and it was awesome! I love my webcame and skype and I’ve been using it like 24/7. It’s pretty much my whole life now. Okay, that was an exxaggeration, but I really do use it all the time. I love being able to see my friends while I talk to them and not having to make any kind of effort at typing. Chatting with my friends it no longer excercise, I can just be incredibly lazy.

So yes, I’m crossing my first item off the list, the first of many. I’m open to suggestions too. I realize through comments from friends and my own research that some of these might be quite impossible (I need to reconsider the running down Mt. Trashmore idea seeing as I don’t want to be arrested). Thank you to Haley for her escalator suggestion! Keep looking out for more posts as I cross off the rest of these.

Happy New Year, everyone!
